07-10 Resolution on Global Climate Change  (PASSED at the 2007 Annual Assembly of the New England Synod)

 

WHEREAS, global climate change is occurring, due to human activity: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that “There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities” (3); and

 

WHEREAS, the poor especially are harmed due to global climate change, as they live in low-lying areas, such as Bangladesh; and

 

WHEREAS, global climate change is considered by many scientists and others to be the most serious problem affecting the present and future generations; therefore be it

 

RESOLVED that the New England Synod urge the congregations and auxiliary organizations of the synod to form care for creation committees and become care for creation centers, and be it further

 

RESOLVED that all congregations of the New England Synod be encouraged to perform an energy audit by January 2008 and commit to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent within the next 10 years.
