New England Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

The Rev. Henry E. Horn, 93, was recognized Friday, June 9, on the 70th anniversary of his ordination for his “faithfulness to the gospel and unquenchable passion in the call to campus ministry.” In his honor, the Campus Ministry Fund from the Bishop’s Appeal of the New England Synod will be called the Henry Horn Campus Ministry Fund. Pr. Horn was ordained June 10, 1936, and served from 1953-1978 as pastor of University Lutheran Church, Cambridge, Mass. Pr. Horn and his wife, the former Catherine Hedwig Stainken, were married June 9, 1939, in Ithaca, N.Y., the day before his ordination, so he also was celebrating the his 70th wedding anniversary! Pr. Horn graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., in 1933, and received his bachelor of divinity degree in 1936 from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. He also served as pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, 1938-1943; as president of Marion College, Marion, Va., 1943-1949; and pastor of Resurrection, Augusta, Ga., 1949-1953. He retired as pastor of University, Cambridge, in 1978, but remains a member of the congregation.
