The 23rd Annual Assembly of the New England Synod, ELCA, will be held June 3-5, 2010, at the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Conference Center, 366 Main Street (Route 20), Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
Our keynoter this year is The Rev. Susan R. Briehl, theologian, author and hymn writer, who has served in parish, campus amd retreat center settings. Briehl is project associate with the Valparaiso Project on Education and Formation of People in Faith (www.practicingourfaith.org), whose purpose is to develop resources to help contemporary people live in the Christian faith with vitality and integrity in changing times. She is also Distinguished Professor of the Art of Ministry at Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. A Lutheran pastor for 25 years, she also has served as director of Holden Village, campus pastor at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wash., and pastor of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Bellingham, Wash. Her writings include “Practicing Our Faith: A Way of Life for a Searching People”(with Dorothy Bass); “Come, Lord Jesus:Devotions for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany”; “Holden Prayer around the Cross: A Guide to the Liturgy” (with Tom Witt); “Turn My Heart: A Sacred Journey from Brokenness to Healing” (with Marty Haugen), and several liturgical and hymn texts.

Registration does not cover hotel costs, only the event costs and the Thursday evening cookout.
Hotel rooms, at special price prices, will allow for up to 4 persons to share. Please be sure to submit only one form per room, indicating roommate names. Resolutions should be sent to New England Synod, 20 Upland Street, Worcester, MA 01607 by April 19, 2010, to be considered at this assembly. Later arrivals may be accepted for consideration by the Reference and Counsel Team only if deemed emergency in nature

NOMINATIONS:
We need to fill 11 seats on the Synod Council, the legislative body that acts for the synod between assemblies; five seats on the Synod Committee on Discipline, and two spots on the Synod Consultation Committee. We also will elect 15 voting members to the 2011 Churchwide Assembly of the ELCA to be held Aug. 14-20, 2011, in Orlando, Fla. The Churchwide Assembly is the chief legislative authority of the ELCA.
