Justice and Ministry for Women
raising awareness of the issues affecting
WOMEN AND CHILDREN
This is NOT for women only!
In these times of extreme economic stress, the issues of homelessness and joblessness are having a much greater impact on a larger number of women and children than they have in decades. To make matters much worse, local agencies on the front line of providing much needed assistance are also struggling to come up with the resources needed to help an increasing number of cries for help.
Now, more than ever we must remember to acknowledge those cries and provide whatever support we can. Please consider becoming an advocate for women and children in poverty and need by learning more about how you and your congregation can become more knowledgeable of the problems and how the system works to either help or hinder. Visit the Justice and Ministry for Women link on the New England Synod website for resources to help you get started. Check back here often. We will add resources as we discover them.
Ask us about “Is There No Sanctuary for Me?”, a role-playing program to simulate homelessness that can be presented to Youth Groups or as an Intergenerational event. We’ll work with you to tailor the program to your own needs. The 1 ½ hour simulation program involves role-playing situations leading to homelessness and compresses 1 8-hour day into 1 hour of simulation as players try to work their way through the system to find food and shelter. You can even invite people from local agencies to participate. The event can include lunch and more time for in depth discussion of homelessness. We can also provide a worship service that can include the Eucharist as a conclusion.
