Global Mission Team
Mission Statement In the spirit of accompaniment and the Rooted for Life vision, the New England Synod Global Mission Team works with conferences and congregations to develop programs of support, education and advocacy that will give members of congregations a better and more personal understanding of our companion synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordon and the Holy Land, along with the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras and the Lutheran Church in Honduras. We also work to make members of the New England Synod aware of global mission opportunities and to encourage financial support of missionaries.
To fulfill our mission statement, we sponsor trips to the Holy Land and Honduras, our companion synod, and its congregations, schools and special ministries. On these trips we emphasize building relationships with the bishop, pastors and members of the congregations of the ELCJHL. In Honduras, we emphasize our relationship with Santa Margarita Episcopal Church in Chachajualla, and the Lutheran Church in La Ceba & San Pedro Sula. We encourage New England Synod congregations to build relationships with these congregations and to sponsor scholarships for students who want to attend high school or college, in the their respective countries, but can not afford to do so.
We promote advocacy for peace and justice issues relating to Palestinians living in a land occupied by Israel. We promote opportunities to partner with the Hondurans to effectively engage in their own ministries of outreach and mission and service with the poor.
We work with the ELCA's Department of Global Missions to promote sponsorship of missionaries in foreign lands and to encourage attendance at the Global Mission Events.
